The Laws and Standards I Follow
Families trust me with their most private matters. That trust is earned by doing things the right way, every time. These are the laws, rules, and standards that guide my work.
California Professional Fiduciaries Act
Business and Professions Code, Section 6500 and following. This law requires anyone who serves as a trustee, conservator, or agent for pay for people who are not their family to be licensed by the state. Until my license is issued (expected early 2027), I do not serve in those roles.
Professional Fiduciaries Bureau rules and Code of Ethics
California Code of Regulations, Title 16, Division 41. These rules cover licensing, continuing education, annual reporting, and a code of ethics on honesty, conflicts of interest, fees, and protecting the people I serve.
California Probate Code
Estates of people who have passed away (Division 7)
Trusts and the duties of trustees (Division 9)
Conservatorships (Division 4)
Powers of attorney (Division 4.5)
California Rules of Court and local court rules
The statewide Probate Rules (Title 7 of the California Rules of Court) and each county Superior Court's local rules for filings, accountings, and deadlines.
Protecting elders and dependent adults
The Elder and Dependent Adult Civil Protection Act (Welfare and Institutions Code, Section 15600 and following). I watch for signs of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation, and I report concerns to the proper authorities.
National Guardianship Association Standards of Practice
Nationally recognized standards for putting the person first, respecting their wishes, and making careful, well-documented decisions.
How I put these into practice
Every service is agreed on in writing before work begins.
Client funds are never mixed with my own.
Every dollar is documented with receipts and records.
I never buy property from an estate or trust I'm handling.
Any business relationship is disclosed up front.
Your information stays confidential.
This page is a plain-language summary for families. It is not legal advice. I am not an attorney, and for legal questions I will refer you to a licensed California attorney.
